Fed-up with my XP BT ADSL USB Alcatel connection dropping every other day and the escalating license cost of all those essential services such as IMAP and firewall I decided to move the lot across to linux and retire my XP box to a dedicated games machine.
This page is an overview of what needed to be installed, the issues I came across, links to useful reference and finally outstanding issues that need to be addressed. This solution provides USB Alcatel ADSL pppoatm connection, Cyrus IMAP email server using Sendmail MTA, Spassassin with Milter filter. DNS named service for internal resolution, routing, Dhcpd lease dhcp, firewall using iptables and Belkin wireless network. Hosted on a Compaq duel Intel PIII 800Mhz.
